Choose your focus
When your team comes to you for helpš and you, as a leader, tend to focus on the details of the problems and solve them by giving them instructions, you are making a mistakeā ļø
You may be enabling them in this given situation to pass through it, but you are making them dependent on you and not building them muscles to solve it on their own in the future.
The real impact you can make on your team is when you focus on their thought process šthan the problem. This is an excellent tool for your team’s transformation.
In your leadership discussions with your team, you can help them notice where they are focusing their attention, either on the drama š of the situation or the problems at hand
When you can direct their attention to a more useful level, this will create a more positiveā impact.
Simply focus šÆ on making your team notice where they are putting their energyā”and pull them up in thinking to change their perspective.
Ask permission before you engage them. This creates psycological safety. Then ask them a lot of thinking questions š¤ rather than problem questions.
As a leader, when you focus on your team’s thought process rather than the problem at hand, you are making a shift in their mindš§ , they get new intuitions and new neural pathways for them to solve the problems on their own šŖ
As a leader, you have to choose your area of focus and impact is natural!
