Stay in control when many things are out of control
How did I stay in control when many things around me were out of control?  My personal formula to rise to the occasion?Â
Fifteen years ago, I switched from a technical architect role to a senior manager role. The senior manager role required a different skillset with more emphasis on people skills and pre-sales skills. This change in role got complicated by the change in technologies of the project and job change.
The first thing that shows up on such occasions is “Fear of Failureð°”. I had my ego, discomfort, the stress of expectations, the fear of failure, and skill readiness issues.
What did I do to rise to the occasion?Â
In retrospect, the things were
â
Realization that I need to accept that I am new to the situation. I have things to unlearn, things to learn. My specialization can only save me partly.
â
More critical is having patience and compassion for myself in my mind for the decision i took.
â
Perseverance to behave according to my values.
â
Moving from the “compete for success” to the “collaborate for success” zone
The secret keyð for my role transitions from Technology to Management is the self-assurance that process and people have equal weightage.
This thinking pattern saved me from falling into crisis. Â
As we chart out the new journey in life,
We hit crisis zones.Â
Instead of being hit by fear.
