The physics behind creating energetic teams
In our high school physics classes, we have all learned about the different types of energy (mechanical, kinetic, chemical, etc.)
Einstein’s law of relativity is a crucial principle involved in understanding the concepts and applications of all these types of energy.
Â
Interestingly, the concepts underlying the Law of Relativity apply well to creating energetic teams!
Â
“E= MC2” can be interpreted as (E)nergy = (M)eaning x (C)onsistency x (C)orrective Action
Â
(M) âĄïļ Clarity, the Meaning of work, is an essential foundation for any team. When the team clearly understands their role and the importance of underlying larger objectives, they have higher-order purpose and relatability for their work. To do the job well, we need to know why we must do it.
Â
(C) âĄïļ Consistency between words and actions is critical in getting the team’s trust. When leaders walk the talk, their team sees them as role models, trusts them, and wants to emulate leaders’ behaviors.
Â
(C) âĄïļ Correction, in many ways, is self-evident. Any strategic endeavor or project is bound to see pitfalls and setbacks. However, the ability to put corrective processes and behaviors in place breaks away the teams apart from others. A Leader who sees genuine mistakes as growth for their team creates psychological safety for the team.
Â
Leaders who demonstrate vulnerability by openly admitting corrective actions build a team that’s not afraid to experiment, more importantly, own up to them, and works quickly to fix them.
Â
When you lead your team with a clear meaning and purpose, consistent actions, and timely course corrections, the team naturally would be highly energetic.
Â
So What’s the energy level of your team?
