True game changer who secured a job in FAANG’s crown jewel.
Today’s story comes to us via Seshu, a senior IT professional with 20+ years of IT experience, whom I had the pleasure of working with almost a decade before our paths connected again2️⃣ years ago.
When I spoke to him, Seshu mentioned that he felt trapped🪤 professionally, as if he was stagnating and could not break through🚀 to the next level at his job. He was looking for support to help him realize his untapped potential⚡ and chart a new path in life.
Almost a decade back, I led him as part of my team. When I asked him, what made him choose me, Seshu mentioned that he had good memories of working with me almost a decade earlier and felt that working again with me would be well served by breaking through his situation.
Seshu felt that my approach to guiding and motivating the team to do their best and achieve their potential was something he saw in real life and wanted to learn from and emulate. Seshu trusted me, and It is now my turn to deliver on his goals by helping him with “Personal Transformation.”
He initially felt a lack of power.
The critical question❓ is, how can we get it back?
Seshu attended every single session with complete dedication and never missed any assignments. He was very focused throughout the journey. His dedication and effort resulted in significant victories.
Noteworthy was his entry into FAANG company as an Engineering Manager with a significant improvement in salary structure.
Seshu achieved sustainable success from the inside out by taking Coaching, which helped him work on his strengths and rewire his belief system.
He had to weed out certain beliefs that were limiting him. He also touched his true self, which helped him to unleash his inner focus and energy
I am personally so humbled and feel so proud of the growth that Seshu created for himself.
In addition to the financial benefits, he mentioned clear benefits on both the professional and personal front:
Noteworthy is,
🏅Maximizing Awareness – Awareness provides the right decision-making capability. I’m glad this was the first takeaway mentioned by him!
🏅Managing the chaos with clarity of thought – Any leader will have to manage multiple competing priorities and have clarity of thought on activities that require the most attention will give you the best outcome, and Seshu was able to get this clarity.
🏅Self-Belief and Confidence – Seshu found his self-belief and confidence improved immensely, helping him aim high on opportunities that came his way. He received a promotion during the coaching and a game-changing job subsequently.
🏅Visualizing the end game – Seshu started manifesting his goals by beginning with an end in mind. This helped him to focus on the right priorities and activities. This intern helped him better execute them better.
🏅Behaviours modification – The newfound confidence and clarity did not go unnoticed in Seshu’s workplace. When colleagues and team members noticed it, their reaction to him also changed for the better!
🏅Better conflict management – Our emphasis in the mindfulness programs of fostering meditation for calming the mind and finding our empathetic side helped him to understand both sides of an argument in a conflict situation and find solutions more effectively. It also helped de-escalate conflicts into discussions rather than just arguments!
Critical impacts in personal life include many dimensional impacts
🏅Anger management – Seshu had mentioned to me that he had the propensity to lose control a bit when he lost his temper; using our meditation and other mental techniques, we were able to work with him to retain his calm even when angry and be open to listening to the other person’s side
🏅Prioritizing Family time – Reprioritizing what is most important. One of the pleasant surprises of this exercise was his willingness to acknowledge that his time spent with family was not as focused as it could be. With his clarity, Seshu focused on dedicated time spent with his spouse and kids, which benefited his family dynamics immensely
🏅Developing Empathy – Connected perhaps with the first point, Seshu tended to be impatient regarding expectations from his family, specifically his spouse. Using the techniques we used to encourage empathy and understanding, he has learned to collaborate rather than dictate, and he has learned to accept the other person’s point of view
🏅Channelling and refocusing on Beliefs – another critical aspect of his personality in which he found a difference was his tendency to fixate on the negatives (which was a major limiting belief) and reframe that to focus on positive emotions
🏅Personal health improvements with a disciplined focus on diet and exercise – The newfound mental clarity and visualizing the end game helped him overcome his dependence on pills to control his high sugar levels. He could control it using a sensible diet and exercise!
I also happened to discuss with him what advice he would give to people in similar situations as he was to break their barriers to get to the next level. Our conversation led to some critical suggestions for such candidates who were stuck in their professional journey:
🧭Identify your key strengths and apply them to applicable situations
🧭Aligning with one’s core values – congruence of one’s actions with one’s core values helps unleash our potential and creates better decision making
Lastly, Seshu mentioned that everyone does every activity twice, once in his head and then in real life. This can only be done if you have clarity on your goals and vision and reach there on your own.
The fact is that coaching of the right kind can cut the journey short and make it less stressful and more joyful.
That, in the end, is their most satisfactory response!
